Cyber Bytes Foundation Launches AI Mobile Unit for Workforce & Education to Expand AI Training Across Virginia

GO Virginia Regions 6 and 9 Unite with Industry, Education, and Local Partners to Prepare Virginia’s Future Workforce

Stafford, Virginia — April 18, 2026 — The Cyber Bytes Foundation proudly announces the launch of the AI Mobile Unit for Workforce & Education, an innovative regional workforce initiative that will bring artificial intelligence training, certifications, and career pathways directly into communities across GO Virginia Regions 6 and 9. Launching in the 2026–2027 school year, the initiative represents a bold investment in Virginia’s talent pipeline and long-term economic competitiveness.

This project was funded in part by GO Virginia, a state-funded initiative administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) that strengthens and diversifies Virginia’s economy and fosters the creation of higher-wage jobs in strategic industries.

The AI Mobile Unit will deploy state-of-the-art mobile learning labs equipped with laptops, secure connectivity, and hands-on AI training technology. These mobile classrooms will travel directly to schools, workforce centers, and community sites—expanding access to high-quality training, particularly in rural and underserved areas where opportunities are often limited.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Academy of Technology and Innovation at the University of Mary Washington (ATI-UMW), which will support curriculum development, dual enrollment pathways, and long-term sustainability. Together, the partners will create meaningful opportunities for high school students, adult learners, educators, and incumbent workers to gain practical AI skills aligned with current and future workforce demand.

Participating localities include Stafford, King George, Orange, Fauquier, and Nelson, reflecting a strong regional commitment to workforce innovation and equitable access to emerging technology education.

“This initiative is about access, opportunity, and economic growth,” said leadership from the Cyber Bytes Foundation. “Artificial intelligence is transforming every industry, and Virginia must ensure students, teachers, and workers are prepared to succeed. Through collaboration with Regions 6 and 9, ATI-UMW, our localities, and industry partners, we are building a model that meets learners where they are and prepares them for the careers of tomorrow.”

The AI Mobile Unit will provide training in foundational AI literacy, ethical AI practices, prompt engineering, and industry-recognized credentials including CompTIA AI Essentials and CompTIA AI Prompting. Participants will also be connected to career pathways in high-demand sectors such as information technology, cybersecurity, advanced manufacturing, logistics, and professional services.

The project demonstrates the power of regional collaboration by bringing together local governments, school divisions, higher education institutions, workforce boards, and private-sector employers to strengthen talent pipelines and support business growth across the Commonwealth.

The GO Virginia grant portfolio announced by Governor Abigail Spanberger includes the AI Mobile Unit as part of a broader $15.3 million investment to grow Virginia’s economy, create jobs, and train thousands of Virginians for high-demand industries.
